EDITORIAL WRITING

For over fifteen years, I’ve written food and lifestyle stories for print and digital publications including Sunset, Wine & Spirits, Civil Eats and Fodor’s Travel Publications. I currently report on restaurants, food producers and hotels/resorts for 1859 Magazine and other outlets. I also cover artists, art museums and non-profits with an environmental focus for 1889 Magazine.

Many of my stories have a Pacific Northwest bent and when I’m not writing, I’m out exploring the many wonders of this region. Whether that’s our distinct merroir and meeting with oyster farmers and fishers or boarding a four-seat Cessna to unwind at a remote river retreat in the sprawling Eagle Cap Wilderness. (Read that story here).

I most frequently write about the people and places behind what we eat and drink with a healthy dose of travel-related features mixed in. I pursue topics I’m curious about and I’m especially drawn to opportunities to learn something new. In Oregon, there’s always something new and fascinating to discover, whether that’s a cutting edge seaweed farm or inspiring scientists researching the state’s kelp forests. (Two favorite stories I pursued in recent years).  Read on for samples of my published clips.

BRAND STORYTELLING

In addition to editorial writing, I work with brands and organizations on a range of copywriting projects from guide books and advertorials to newsletters and social media content.

It’s extraordinary to see all the wild and remot It’s extraordinary to see all the wild and remote places that classical pianist Hunter Noack hauls his 9-foot Steinway grand piano to for concerts.

@inalandscape, the concert series he founded, celebrates 10 years this summer. This video is from the first enchanting concert I attended in the Columbia River Gorge four summers ago. (You can hear the Gorge winds). 💨

His current tour spans the West Coast with some stellar locations in Oregon, including @stollerwine, @soterwines and @portlandrosegardens.

Two new shows in September partner with @darkskyoregon, pairing stargazing with classical piano at high desert destinations @summerlakehotsprings and @sunriverresort. ✨🎶⛰️

Still thinking about ☀️ Summer Solstice ✨ @a Still thinking about ☀️ Summer Solstice ✨ @ambarestate, the Willamette Valley’s first @regenerativeorganic certified vineyard in the famed Dundee Hills.

To celebrate the longest day of the year and their one year anniversary, they hosted Tide to Table, a collaborative dinner with Alanna Kieffer, a seaweed farmer with @oregonseaweed, co-founder of @winterwaterspnw and marine educator extraordinaire @shifting_tides_nw. 🪸🦑🌊

In addition to inspiring talks about regenerative farming and coastal wonders, chef Heidi Whitney-Schile wowed the guests with live mussel cooking over a wine barrel and platters of oysters with stunning vineyard views.

Other standouts: uni toast (eat uni, save @oregonkelp!) and dessert, @jacobsensaltco honey mousse with summer berries. And always wonderful dinner companions @judiaann & @coopermountainvineyards.

Meet the wildly talented underwater photographer A Meet the wildly talented underwater photographer Annie Crawley in the recent @1889washington. Crawley spent thirty years living and working around the waters of the world.

She now lives in Edmonds, where she creates captivating multimedia content around ocean literacy and works as a devoted advocate for the sea.

When she first learned to dive right out of college, it was love at first dip. “Scuba diving changed my life,” she said. “I found my home in the ocean.”

The Pacific Northwest is full of so many phenomenal people and the opportunity to share their inspiring stories is one of the great joys of contributing to these wonderful print magazines.
