“Moss art came in like a shooting star and it’s really having a moment,” said Rebecca Sheedy of Floraform Design. “Overall, people are wanting more and more plants in their life.” The botanist and artist should know.

For sixteen years, she’s been working in biophilic design, exploring creative ways to bring nature into everyday life from private homes to public spaces.

For Sheedy, living walls and moss installations are similar to meaningful pieces of art—just made with plants instead of paint or pastels.

“I’ve felt a connection to plants for as long as I can remember and that’s something I want to share,” said Sheedy. “I do this work because I want people to be aware that we have a much deeper relationship with plants than just aesthetics.”

She sees living walls as a prime solution for greening up urban areas where floor space is limited but wall space is all around. “It also has the power to change your perspective,” said Sheedy.

Recently, while working on an outdoor vertical garden, she was barely done when she noticed a pair of birds had made a nest.

That was just the beginning. Hummingbirds and butterflies and an array of buzzy insects followed. “All of this life moves in and instead of a bare wall you now have habitat.”

On a stay at Seattle’s stunning downtown hotel that beautifully balances sustainability and luxury, I found the biophilic art installations so captivating, they turned into an art feature for @1889washington.

You can see Rebecca Sheedy’s botanical art throughout the hotel’s bright and airy spaces. To bring a sense of place to the pieces, she and her team collected driftwood from Puget Sound beaches.

Sheedy used crushed oyster shells as grout between the driftwood pieces for the riverscape and layered in moss and lichen for the mountains.🏔️

Where I send adventurous wine lovers daydreaming a Where I send adventurous wine lovers daydreaming about country living: @antiquumfarmer.

Grab your Grundens and head to the state’s most idyllic wine farm for a storybook afternoon.
🍇🐓🐖🐑

Located about thirty miles from Eugene, @antiquumfarmer’s entire ethos centers around grazing-based viticulture and regenerative agriculture.

That’s why your wine tasting includes a rambling tour of the farm and vineyard, where you’ll mingle with a herd of perky Kunekune pigs and a gaggle of happy-go-lucky geese and ducks.

You’ll also meet the crew’s loyal livestock guardian dogs, majestic Maremmas. The reservation-only tastings take place in a Cotswold-like cottage (or garden tables in warmer months).

Try This: Perpetua Album IV, Pinot Gris

Another favorite to celebrate Oregon Wine Month fr Another favorite to celebrate Oregon Wine Month from @sip_magazine’s It’s a Vibe
feature — @ambarestate 🌲✨🍷

VIBES: Sublime Serenity

At this sophisticated new wine estate in the Dundee Hills, serenity is rooted in nature. It’s the ancient redwood tree, shrouded in an ethereal mist each hour, surrounded by moss-cloaked basalt rocks.

The harmonious gardens, designed by renowned landscape architect Hoichi Kurisu (he also created the Portland Japanese Garden along with other internationally acclaimed projects).

It’s the elegant tasting room, modern Japanese-inspired architecture with soaring glass-walls and doors that evoke traditional shoji screens. And it’s the intimate tasting experience, set in a private suite that overlooks a sea of vineyards and sky-high evergreens.

Just as memorable, chef Heidi Whitney-Schile’s hyper-seasonal, wine-paired dishes (from silky sōmen noodles flecked with wild greens to umami-packed tuna tataki nicoise), each one more revelatory than the next.

Try This: 2022 Ambar Estate Lustral Chardonnay, Dundee Hills

Here’s a peek behind the cover @antica_terra’s fabulous Table in the Trees surrounded by towering oaks. 🌲🍷✨

VIBES: Quiet Luxury

There’s a dream wine experience for every personality — and Antica Terra’s new hospitality center is for those who seek quiet luxury.

Designed by the architectural firm @west_of_west, the atmospheric Barrel Hall offers multiple immersive experiences. For A Very Nice Lunch, expect a sequence of impeccable wine-paired dishes (from succulent pink singing scallops en papillote to hearty cassoulet with foraged green garlic and truffle jus).

Book the Collective Tasting to try Maggie Harrison’s wines alongside inspirational bottles from around the world. Add on the Rarities Flight for something transcendent (recent
wines included Guillaume Selosse Largillier champagne and 1985 Giacomo Borgogno Barolo Riserva).

Come summer, taste at a 200-foot-long concrete table that swirls under leafy oaks, where guest artists install thought-provoking pieces in and around the trees.

Try This: Angelicall Rosé

An ideal location for any Gorge adventure, it’s the perfect retreat for peak wildflower hikes along the Mosier Plateau Trail, especially if you want to capture the flowers at golden hour. 🌼

Other highlights, the hotel’s Adventure Lounge by @firstnaturetours, dedicated to helping guests design seasonal excursions that showcase the beautiful Columbia River Gorge.

Choose from waterfall hikes, evergreen cycling routes, paddling the Columbia or rafting its rapids with top-tier guides.

Not pictured, the fabulous rooftop bar and subterranean spa and soaking pools, also ideal for post-hike relaxation.

For food and wine lovers, don’t miss @analemmawines in Mosier. 🍇

Seeking cozy sleeps with vineyard views? A recen Seeking cozy sleeps with vineyard views?

A recent @traveloregon story I wrote covers the state’s top vineyard and winery stays, from secluded vineyard cottages to refined countryside estates. 🍇

For quiet luxury and wellness, look to the North Willamette Valley. In the Central and South Willamette, you’ll find cool airstreams and upscale lodging with a chef’s kitchen.

In Southern Oregon—stay surrounded by vine-covered hillsides in farmhouses, bungalows and historic homes.
