🐟 @aji__pdx: Head to this lunch pop up located in @zillasakepdx to taste the delicate nuances found in dry-aged fish. Swipe to see chef Jeffrey Kim deftly slicing fish and scooping uni from a purple sea urchin @winterwaterspnw. 🌊

🌿 @cascadapdx: Portland’s newest luxury hotel and spa that’s @usgbc certified and big on biophilic design (so many swoon-worthy vertical gardens). Also: thermal springs, cold plunge, sauna and more. 🏊🏻‍♀️ And very cool circadian lighting from @graypantsstudio. (See last video).

Still thinking about ☀️ Summer Solstice ✨ @ambarestate, the Willamette Valley’s first @regenerativeorganic certified vineyard in the famed Dundee Hills.

To celebrate the longest day of the year and their one year anniversary, they hosted Tide to Table, a collaborative dinner with Alanna Kieffer, a seaweed farmer with @oregonseaweed, co-founder of @winterwaterspnw and marine educator extraordinaire @shifting_tides_nw. 🪸🦑🌊

In addition to inspiring talks about regenerative farming and coastal wonders, chef Heidi Whitney-Schile wowed the guests with live mussel cooking over a wine barrel and platters of oysters with stunning vineyard views.

Other standouts: uni toast (eat uni, save @oregonkelp!) and dessert, @jacobsensaltco honey mousse with summer berries. And always wonderful dinner companions @judiaann & @coopermountainvineyards.

Meet the wildly talented underwater photographer A

Meet the wildly talented underwater photographer Annie Crawley in the recent @1889washington. Crawley spent thirty years living and working around the waters of the world.

She now lives in Edmonds, where she creates captivating multimedia content around ocean literacy and works as a devoted advocate for the sea.

When she first learned to dive right out of college, it was love at first dip. “Scuba diving changed my life,” she said. “I found my home in the ocean.”

The Pacific Northwest is full of so many phenomenal people and the opportunity to share their inspiring stories is one of the great joys of contributing to these wonderful print magazines.

In this stunning solo exhibit, titled Passage, you can see standout pieces by the artist on two levels of the building ranging from colorful baskets stitched from fishing nets and ropes lost at sea to evocative wall sculptures. 🌊

In the latest @1859oregon we spotlight the incredibly talented artist @emilyjungmiller. For over two decades, she’s centered her optimistic art around environmental stewardship, often incorporating natural and reclaimed materials into interactive installations.

In 2019, she launched Ghost Net Landscape, a series of community installations focused on transforming reclaimed fishing gear into purposeful art.

“Ghost nets” refer to fishing nets and rope lost at sea that continue to catch and harm marine life. For these installations, Miller partners with beach clean ups and commercial fisheries for materials.

She sees these art installations as an act of radical hope and an agent for change. You can catch her solo exhibit on display through July 25th in the Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building at Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport.
